Adding status updates without mail notification

    As well as standard posts to my blog, I would also like to be able to add short “Facebook-status-like” entries, but WITHOUT sending e-mail notifications to followers every time I add an update. You can see the sort of thing I mean in the text widget in the righthand sidebar in my blog. Using a text widget for this is a bit limiting though, so I wondered if anybody had a workround to make this sort of frequent “status updating” easier (I do understand the java limitation), either in the sidebar or perhaps in a separate home page widget. The status post format doesn’t work for me as my updates would be brief and frequent and I don’t want to annoy followers and reduce the impact of my more serious posts by sending e-mail notifications for these one/two-line entries.
