Adding sub-header

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I’m using the “Digg” theme for my blog http://tummytravels.org/ and want to add a sub-header. Is there some way to do this by modifying CSS and not changing the theme? I’ve purchased the upgrade but am new to all this so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The theme in question Digg3 is not coded to include a “tagline”. CSS editing will allow you to stylize the appearance of the theme but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template.

Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, that’s why we Volunteers do not I recommend that members buy the annually renewable upgrade unless they have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.

It could be that you could, through the CSS upgrade, reposition a text widget up under the blog title. I haven’t tried it with Digg, so I’m not sure if it will work or not.

My suggestion would be to put the “tagline” into the header image. That would be the easiest way. You might have to futz with placement a little, but it would not take any CSS prowess to accomplish it.

Thanks guys, @thesacredpath – that is exactly what I ended up doing (placing the tagline into the image). It looks a little janky but I guess it’ll have to do for now.

You’re welcome. That is one of the problems with JPG images, they anti-alias which makes text look fuzzy.

You might, with that image, try saving it as a PNG instead. Normally I don’t recommend PNG for a photographic image, but with that one it might work, and the text will come out very clean (no fuzzies).

It would work. Back when I had Digg3, I had a tagline via position absolute (in html) thanks to Panos. Sorry but I don’t have the code I used anymore…
