Adding Tabs?
-
Hi, I’m having some trouble customizing my blog. I have never created my own blog before and technology has always bested me when it comes to understanding it. My question is, when I’m customizing my page, how do I add more tabs on my header? I see “home” and “about” but I would like to add more tabs like: “Fiction” and “Illustrations.” Any tips? I have the Hemingway rewritten format.

Thanks for the help, this slightly helped. I’m still not sure how to add these new menus onto the pages. I made a new menu, but how do I make the menu into a page? I followed the instructions, could it be that I don’t have those respective pages?

First you need to create pages for Fiction, Illustrations etc. Then go to Appearance → Menus in your Dashboard. You name the menu (for example, “Main Menu”) and hit Create Menu button. Then select pages or tick Auto add pages. Do not forget to save.
Under Manage Locations Tab, assign your menu to the location you wish your menu to appear. -

@leslieg16,
Note that the menu items in a custom menu can be posts as well as pages, as well as links to various other URL types (website, image, search results, etc.). -
I’m so sorry, this is very embarrassing for me. I conducted all the steps, meticulously followed what the website and various others have told me to do and still was not able to create more tabs on the menu bar. Do I have to post something first in order to create these tabs or can I just organize this page first without doing so? what am I doing wrong?

Nothing will show up till it exists. So yes, you need to have one post in each category in your Custom Menu before it manifests on the header. Same with static Pages. They have to exist and have content.
This is why I say don’t try to customize until you have at least three posts up. It isn’t enough material to work with.

Oh my- thank you! I think I was cumulating an ulcer for the past day just figuring out what was happening with me and my ability to function anything that deals with a website. Much appreciation and relief. Thank you.

You’re welcome. Once you get some content it’ll all fall into place and these instructions will seem so easy in retrospect.
