Adding tags to pages other than the home page?
-
OK, sorry for all the questions, but I am trying to add tags to my other pages (I have a “weekly update” on one of my pages where I answer a different question each week, and I can’t figure out how to tag that page aside from my home blog page….) I am not a coder, and all the solutions I’ve found involve lots of code. I’d really need to have the code written out for someone who has no understanding beyond drop down menus. Does anyone know how to help :)!? Thanks so so much!

You cannot tag or categorize a page. A page is static and is useful for information that does not change, for example an about page or a page with historical references or a page with definitions.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/You can categorize posts (or tag them). When you choose a category from a category widget, you get all the posts in that category.

also see info about category and tag clouds in the support docsYou have only one dynamic page where your posts are placed. The category, tag, or archive page can be linked to via a custom menu (or menu widget). You can post only to this one dynamic page. Dynamic means that every time you post, that page changes automatically for the latest post to show on top.
You cannot post to a page.
But because you can link to a category page, you can add that link to a custom navigation menu or to a menu widget. It appears you are posting to a specific category.

I see…So actually it would make sense to just make my weekly answers a “short” post on the home page instead of a changing static page… especially since the static pages won’t email followers when they are updated, correct?
Gosh, thanks so much for your support and help!

Exactly. Readers cannot subscribe to a page. With a post, your subscribers will be updated when you publish a new weekly installment. Also they can look at the category (weekly update) to see past posts if they want to catch up.
You are welcome!
