Adding text over Featured Image

I’m struggling with the Ixion Theme. I want to add text over my featured image so people know what they are clicking on… but everything I’ve tried so far hasn’t worked. I’ve edited the Tags under the appearance section, and I’ve tried adding a new tag directly to the post itself, but nothing is working… my homepage only shows my featured image – no text on top of it.

    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Hi there,

Out of curiosity, are you trying to set up a look similar to the homepage shown in the demo here? https://ixiondemo.wordpress.com/

I think it’s worth pointing out that the Ixion theme is an older “classic theme” that we offer, but it was created and launched before we had a modern block editor, such as what you are using to construct the layout of your current homepage.

All classic themes offer basic block compatibility, but in this case it’s not possible to re-create the homepage template using blocks. The homepage seen in the demo is hard-coded into the theme (as used to be the case with all themes in the past) so it’s not possible to carry some elements over to your current design.

However, it is possible to set up the homepage template that is included in the demo. Did you want help in understanding how to do that? If you prefer to use your current homepage there may be other ways to create a similar (if not exactly the same) layout using blocks so if you prefer to consider that option, let us know.

    Thanks for the additional info!

Ohhh… Yes, I was attempting to mimic the homepage, but using different colors and such. That makes so much sense now though about the classic theme – I didn’t realize not everything could be transferred over…

I think I’ll try to set up the page a different way now that I know this. Thank you for your response!! This makes so much sense.
