Adding text widget

  Doing zerotohero and can’t figure out how to add text widget (assignment, day 2). Here’s what I’m doing: doing to appearance, widgets. I click on about me widget and click add widget to the sidebar. Then, I’m supposed to see something that has a line for text and for title, and a place to add text. What’s there is a bunch of busy stuff that when I click on it doesn’t have any place for me to add a few lines of text. I’m probably making this way more complicated than it needs to be. Any really simple suggestions or directions for a true novice (2 postings, ever)? Thanks.
