Adding the byline to the post header that appears on front page of Sunspot theme

    My blog (www.IrelandGolfTour2015.com) is a modified Sunspot theme. I’ve added several CSS customizations to the appearance of the site. On the front page I’m using a two-column option for the post summaries. The meta block under the title of the post shows only the date of the post. Then when you click on the post to view the entire post, the meta block under the post title shows both the date and the byline. The byline says, for example, “BY MIKE”, when “MIKE” is the author of the post.

    I would like to have the byline, “BY MIKE” appear on the front page with the date of the post, so that visitors to the site could see who is adding the posts before clicking on a post.

    I’ve traced the byline to this content….
    <span class=”byline”>
    by
    <span class=”author vcard”>

    </span>
    </span>

    As you can see, I’ve been able to figure out how to fiddle with the appearance of the theme by adding some CSS modifications. But is the adding of the byline to the front page something that is hard-wired into the theme that cannot be changed by using the “Customize” functionality that I purchased? More generally, am I asking to change the content / layout of the theme which is not allowed, because only the appearance of the theme can be altered with the CSS modifications? Just trying to understand the limits of what I can alter with WordPress.com blog.

    My blog is IrelandGolfTour2015.com

    Hi @MikeG,

    I believe a modification like this would require modifying the individual templates that pull in the post meta information. In short, I do not think this is possible through CSS.

    However, if you would like, you could post it to our CSS forum here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

    We have some CSS ninjas that answer questions there. They may be able to provide you with a method that works!
