Adding the Gapingvoid Widget to a hosted WordPress.com Blog

I want to add the gapingvoid widget to the sidebar of my wordpress.com blog.

THIS is Gapingvoid, Hugh Macleod incredible intelligent, witty and funny blog with his famous cartoons drawn on the back of business cards.

    THIS is his cool widget.

This widget is not accepted by wordpress.com – as usual …

Please make it possible, Matt. You’ll do half of the blogging mankind a big favor ;)

Whilst the posts are humorous, due to the language used in the cartoons I can’t see it appealing to many bloggers. With that in mind I very much doubt that it will be added to wp.com.

As for the “as usual” comment, if it bugs you that much that you can’t have exactly what you want on your free blog, there always this.

To me blogs are about writing, not about how much crap a person can fill their sidebar with.

Matt – I’m also weighing in for a “no” vote on “tat” plug-ins. Tx.

For the record, that’s actually *NOT* a WordPress widget. All that is is a JavaScript.

And it’s not being accepted because JavaScripts are a security issue and security concerns outweigh features. (Beginning to think that that needs to be in the Welcoming email as well as the link to the FAQ and the forums…) I, for one, would rather know my blog is up and running instead of wondering who’s hacking it like I would be over at Blogger ot MySpace.

And anytime I see something like “You’ll do half of the blogging mankind”, you know that’s a no vote.

What you could do in stead is create a Text widget and stick in there a thumbnail of one of his pictures with a “To see more, then click here” link.

Famous? I’ve never heard of hime until five seconds ago. Not even listed in Wikipedia…

*chuckle* I do find this image fits though with what we’re dicussing though. Maybe the requester missed this one. :)

ahh, that is a shame about this widget. While you folks here may not have heard of Hugh, he is quite well known in his areas of expertise and is considered a member of that silly group called ‘A list’ bloggers.

800k blogs here and two requests within 12 months. Hmm….

However many requests there were, I’d still be against it:

Thank you; it’s a relief to know that. Thus, he doesn’t need us pimping for him. ;)

He is indeed quite well-known, and has been for a few years. I generally find it enough to link to those of his blog posts that I find worthwhile; if you find everything he says worthwhile, blogroll him.

And thanks so much for the condescension. God knows, we don’t have enough of it around the help forum.

There goes rain again. Playing down to us math majors. :)
