Adding the Search and Filter plugin to a main blog page

  I downloaded a Search and Filter plugin and I am having a difficult time adding it to the top of a blog page. Could someone possibly give some instruction of how to do this? If I try to add the search and filter shortcode – [searchandfilter fields=’search,category,post_tag’] to the blog page using a text box it doesn’t work.
