Adding To The Main Page

    Hello =)

I was hoping someone can help me, I wanted to know if it was possible to add more stuff such as text or images right on top of my recent articles – under the big slide show of featured articles.

If you go to this site: http://www.parkandcube.com/
Scroll all the way down, where it says ‘park & cupboard’ and ‘inspiration’, I was wondering if it was possible to do something like this right on top of my recent articles or right on top of both my recent articles and the right side bar where my instagram is at.

    Thanks!

    Kelly

By the way, I have the Oxygen Theme.

I looked at http://www.parkandcube.com/ and I see that they display this image right above the “Inspiration” image:

You could do something similar in your Oxygen theme sidebar. The first thing you’ll need is an image. If you make or find one that fits into your sidebar space which is 250px wide in Oxygen.

I searched around and I found that Pinterest has a Goodies page with some things you can probably use on WordPress.com. (You can use anything that’s a static image, no forms or Javascript.) Check out the “Follow Button” for Websites section at http://pinterest.com/about/goodies/ The top button there could be cool:

    <a href="http://pinterest.com/USERNAME/"><img src="http://passets-lt.pinterest.com/images/about/buttons/follow-me-on-pinterest-button.png" width="169" height="28" alt="Follow Me on Pinterest" /></a>

Replace USERNAME with your Pinterest username. You could put that right above your Instagram image by adding it right into the same text widget as the first thing.

Here’s another example you can use to see how adding a different image would work. Note that I used the image from the site you linked in this example—you shouldn’t copy their image, you should create your own.

Hey designsimply, thanks for replying =)

I was actually talking about the small slide show under ‘park & cupboard’ and the image under ‘inspiration’. I like how these two things are next to each other.

On my site I wanted to do something like that showing jewelry on the small slide show and then artwork as an image, and I wanted to place all of this right on top/before my recent articles on my site.

Is there a code where I can place whatever I want right on top/before my recent articles – but under my main big slide show?

WordPress.com has a slideshow feature. It doesn’t look exactly like the one on the site you mentioned. You can see an example at http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/

There isn’t a way to add dynamic content like slideshow above the recent articles section in the WordPress.com Oxygen theme. Sorry about that!

You might be able to get something close-ish on a static page by manually creating two div tags for a slideshow and an embedded image using the HTML editor.

If you’re interested in getting super fine-grained control over the PHP code in a blog, you would need to switch to WordPress.org and then consult a web developer to build the features you want or find a theme that does exactly what you’re looking for without any modifications.
