Adding Trackback urls since the new editor
-
Greetings,
First, I must say that as a blogger with WordPress for over ten (10) years, I am not happy with the new interface thrust upon us to post new blogs or tweak old ones.
Is there a way to have democracy on this point? If so, how can I choose to go back to my tried and true, original interface for posting and editing, please?
And…to the above point, now there is no place to add “trackback” urls, which I loved to do in order to attract more eyes along the same tope as I blogged about!
If I am missing something or someplace to do it, please guide me. The new editor is very lame, IMO.
Looking forward to some helpful hints.

Hi there,
If you prefer the previous text editing tools, we recommend the classic block, which is a block you can add to “insert” the classic editor inside of the newer block editor, and has the familiar formatting tools you are used to: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
We also have tips for making the move from the classic editor to blocks, which is where we will be releasing new features as they are added https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/
And…to the above point, now there is no place to add “trackback” urls, which I loved to do in order to attract more eyes along the same tope as I blogged about!
I’m not sure I understand this, can you walk me through how you normally do this? You are following the steps recommended here? https://wordpress.com/support/comments/trackbacks/
Thanks for the additional info!

Yes. I just scroll down to “Send Trackbacks to” and plob in the urls that I glean from my research with are related to the subject of my blog post into the box with two spaces apart and “save”. I see no such abilty to do this in this new “blocks” or whatever it is. Very strangre and give me a headache to try to figure out. Sometimes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies.

Hi there,
You are correct that the Send Trackbacks option does not exist in the block editor. This was a decision by the people who make the WordPress software over on WordPress.org, and it appears they already made that decision in 2017: Trackbacks is an outdated technology that almost no system uses anymore, and there is an issue open on WordPress.org to have the trackbacks feature removed from the software completely.
Modern websites instead use Pingbacks, where the notification is automatically sent to the other site when you simply include a link in the content of your post itself. Pingbacks work with both naked links, and hyperlinked text. So it shouldn’t be necessary to also manually add trackbacks if the links are already included in your text, and that’s aside from the fact that most websites won’t even accept trackbacks you send any more, as these days the feature is mostly just abused by spammers. Most modern websites only accept pingbacks from other sites.
For now the trackback setting is still available in the classic editor, as it is on stand-alone WordPress sites via the classic editor plugin. But once that feature is completely removed from the WordPress software, it will disappear from WordPress.com as well.
