New to Blogging?
If you are new to blogging and haven’t done so yet, you will need to get a Google web masters account, generate and submit an site map, and register with search engines.(1) Find Technorati http://www.technorati.com on the web. This site indexes blogs only, whereas Google indexes web sites, including blogs. Register and create an account, claim your blog(s), tag them, and register your favorite blogs. You will find that the site has excellent instructions to help you work through all the steps.
(2) Also be sure to register your blog so you get the attention of search engines. It is said that Google’s directory comes straight from the DMOZ Directory so look into getting your blog site listed in it. The DMOZ has strict guidelines as to who is listed. Submission info can be made here http://www.dmoz.org/
“If your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, Google, Netscape Search, Yahoo Search, and hundreds of other sites. We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule.”
You should *NOT* submit your site to Google, Yahoo, and MSN more than once every 30 days.
Although Google says that manually submitting your pages to their index is unnecessary, they have an interface for you to do so. http:// http://www.google.com/addurl/ But don’t be surprised if it takes weeks for Google to acknowledge your site’s existence. Also register for a Google webmaster’s account http://tinyurl.com/5uhnzq
MSN will seldom visit a website unless invited by submission. http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
Yahoo frequents sites more than MSN but less than Google but will dramatically increase visits after submission. http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
(3) If you have assigned categories and tags to your posts and used keywords in your post titles, subtitles and in the natural flow of the text they will be picked up by the search spiders.
(4) Getting backlinks from other bloggers who link to your posts is the quickest way to be indexed by search engines.

Twenty five steps to increase blog traffic
In blogging content is king and marketing is queen. If you write high quality original content and promote it then the result may be an increase in organic traffic, or not. If it’s not easy to locate your content in search engines then there will be no increase in new traffic. Thus, what determines success is two things:
* whether or not your content is found, and
* whether or not the readers who do find it become subscribers.
