Adding unwanted spaces
-
Hi,
I embed a lot of examples from Twitter, etc., into my blog for my students to see. For some reason, WordPress has decided to add large amounts of space between each of these items every time I make any change to the page (whether it involves them or not). I have to go back in every time and remove the added spaces and save. Why is it doing this? How can I get it to stop? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Can you please give me a link to a specific page where this is happening on your blog so I can have a look?

Those extra line breaks are caused by the
HTML element. To remove them, you need to open that page in the WP-Admin Editor (https://janegibsonnattsportsmediarelations.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=21&action=edit), switch to the Text tab and remove the unnecessary line break tags ( ).Here’s a screenshot to illustrate it:

Hello,
The extra line breaks do NOT show up in the TEXT tab, nor in the HTML code.
Here is a screenshot of the text. -
Hello,
There are no line breaks in the text or the HTML code.
See <href=”http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~natt/wordpressspace.jpg”>
It’s literally just a bunch of white space

@apjgibson that is odd.
Which editor are you using to create this page? We have the classic editors via wp-admin and wordpress.com/post, and the new block editor available at each of those as well, so let us know whether you’re using new or class, and wp-admin or worpdress.com/post.
Also, do the spaces go away temporarily then come back after another edit?
And, do you mind if Staff test-edits this post to see what’s up?
-
I’m still using the classic editor I think. I simply edit from the post itself (call up page, edit )
And yes, I take all the extra white space out, save it and the page looks fine. But if I do anything to the page, they seem to come back.
Yes it would be fine to test-edit. This class does not meet again until Tuesday.

Thanks, and as one more thing, do you edit via wordpress.com/post or wp-admin? (There’s a classic and new for each one).

You need to edit it from the WP-Admin dashboard as I’ve shown you in the screenshot. Here’s a link that’ll take you there:

That’s weird. What happens if you delete the empty lines while you’re on the Text tab and update the page?
