Adding/uploading a small video to my blog post.

While it is relatively painless linking a youtube or any video from any platform. It seems it isn’t possible to do the same thing on my blog. I tried uploading the video in both .mp4 and .mkv formats but get the same issue.
“Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.”
The media files I am uploading are G in nature and less than an MB. I have no clue or idea why wordperess doesn’t allow it.

Uploading video to a WordPress.com site requires at least our Premium Plan.
https://wordpress.com/support/videos/
Video files cannot be directly uploaded on the free plan. On the free plan you can only embed videos that are hosted on other supported services like Youtube or Vimeo.

Can I add videos that I make only for my site with the basic $4/month plan? My site is not commercial – no adds, nothing – just for personal pleasure.

Hi Joe,
To be able to host videos on your site you’ll need to at least upgrade to the Premium plan.
You can, however, upload your videos to YouTube or some other service and then embed them to your site. This can be done on any plan including the Free plan.
