adding users doesn't work

I want certain users to post to my blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/ says I can do that. Followed instructions and at my end it says a message was sent but it never appears at the user’s dashboard – My Blogs. What gives? Please help. Thanking you in advance, Jim

I invited 4 users to post on my blog as author. Slowly, over a period of days – maybe they don’t check their e-mail often, they began to respond. My wife’s PC, which is next to mine never did, even though I kept re-sending many times, and checking her e-mail frequently. Her user name is Kovar3, e-mail is (email visible only to moderators and staff). We’d check her e-mail ever few minutes, hours, many times a day until finally, after a couple of days, when I was out of town, she got the e-mail, I tested it, and she can post now.
So, why did it take so long for her to get the e-mail?

Also, it appears that I can offer to let someone post only if they have a wordpress count, is that correct?

yes to write for your blog (Author, Contributor etc.) a person needs an account at WordPress.COM – or they can send you the content and you can copy and paste it into your blog for them

Also, a person can open a wordpress account without actually creating a blog, is that correct?
There is a limit to 10 users I can allow to post on my blog using this method. I didn’t find another method within the wordpress system that allows more than 10 users. I don’t want to go to a plugin as I have tried 2 plugins before and neither worked as advertised. On the first plugin I had a terrible time uninstalling it and the current “Like” plugin doesn’t un-install easily either , so I’m leery of plugins. Any suggestions?
I still don’t know why it took so long to send that e-mail request to my wife.

You can have more than 10 users on a blog, but you can only invite them in blocks of 10.
I’m afraid I can’t explain why it took so long for your wife to receive the email. Often these emails are received within minutes of the invitation being sent out. In this case, there could have been a delay somewhere between our servers and her email provider.
