Adding VERTICAL RESPONSE newsletter/widget

  Hi,

  I need assistance in installing the following new widget.

  First off, here are the directions that I have some questions with (my questions are in CAPS):

  Follow the following steps to install this plugin.

  1. Download plugin to the /wp-content/plugins/ folder
  (QUESTION 1): HOW DO I INSTALL/DO THIS?

  2. Upload the plugin to your web host
  (QUESTION 2): HOW DO I DO THIS?

  3. Activate the plugin through the Plugins page (wp-admin/plugins.php)
  (QUESTION 3): HOW DO I DO THIS?

  Add the widget to your sidebar on the Widgets page (wp-admin/widgets.php)
  For 2.7, the widgets page is here: ‘Appearance > Widgets’
  Otherwise, the widgets page is here: ‘Design > Widgets’
  Configure the widget and save the settings

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  There is no FTP acces to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot install individual plugins.

  The blog linked to your username is a free hosted WordPress.com blog. It is not a WordPress.org install for self hosting. If you want to use Vertical response JavaScript widgets and newsletter plug-ins you have posted about, then you will have to hire a web host and set up a self hosted WordPress.org install, and move your WordPress.com blog content into it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

  I understand – ok thank you! That makes clearer sense.

  So as long as our blog is essentially free- we can’t use the Vertical Response widget? (Just to be clear). THANK YOU!

  If you have a WordPress.org install then the only security threat is to your own install. WordPress.com blogs are all on the same multiuser blogging platform and one instance of bad code could bring down many blogs. This makes it clear which codes can be used and which ones will be stripped out by the software to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
