Add topic to favorites
I have added plenty of videos from YouTube to my blog in the past, but now, after wordpress had updated it’s website features, I can no longer post a link to the YouTube video. It says the file format is incorrect. Why is this? How can I insert videos and YouTube postings into my blog posts?

I’m having the same problem. Usually this is the format most sites WANT! I can’t even upload it directly from my computer! What gives??

Thank you @gjg1984, are you just pasting that link as-is?

I tried pasting it into a new post and couldn’t duplicate the error you’ve seen, regardless of which editor I used.

Can you link to a post where you’ve tried to paste this link?

Can you get a screesnhot of the link you’re pasting with the error you get? Maybe the context of the full screen will help me see what’s wrong. Just upload the screenshot to your media library or to a service like Cloudup.com and send us the link.

Hi @gjg1984, I actually still don’t see a screenshot in your media library for the site mentioned here. But I may have figured out how to duplicate what you’re seeing.

Are you trying to use a youtube shortcode or embed code, or are you simply pasting a link to the video? Let me know

You don't see a screen shot in my media library? It's the most recent image uploaded in the top left corner. I see it when I open up the media library. Anyway, this is the link that I have tried to put into my blog using the “add via URL” button…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1Ca9g6Wgjs
I have also tried inserting the following link and it still gives me the same error message…https://youtu.be/g1Ca9g6Wgjs

Each time I try to upload it it says it can't be uploaded due to the file type. This didn't use to be a problem on WordPress. It was only after the site updated it's layout that this problem started.

I used thes youtube shortcode https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#embedding-with-a-shortcode below in a test post in my blog and it worked instantly.
