Adding WAV Files to Blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I have purchased the 5 G upgrade. I selected the WAV file I wanted to use, and it uploaded, and then crunched. Now all I get in the post is the Title of the file….no player, no directions to upload a player, no nothing. I’ve searched all the forums, and still can’t find an answer….did I just waste 20 bucks? I don’t have any kind of software to change over to MP3, I wish they were, but they are WAV….HELP????????

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just found a free software to convert to MP3 file…and still no player showing up….I give up!

Without a link to the post, and a little more information, we can’t help you.

    Did you follow these instructions:

    Audio

The post isn’t published, I’m attempting this through preview, as I don’t want the post out there for my readers to see if it doesn’t work…..not really sure what else you need to know.

Here’s what I’ve done. I’ve uploaded the MP3 file (as well as a WAV version) to the Media Gallery. It has uploaded the file, and crunched it. When I preview the post, it just shows the name of the file there. I can hover over it, and play the file, but I can’t figure out how to put a player in the post, and then have the player play the specific file that is in my media library I want played.

Gotta give me time to reply before you ask more questions friend…..yes, I followed them, and honestly they aren’t very clear.

Just follow the instructions at the link rain provided. It’s a simple matter of using a shortcode.

  • Unknown's avatar

    What part is unclear?

  • Unknown's avatar

not as simple as you’d think evidently….I can’t figure out how to put the player in and the player play the file in my media library.

  • Unknown's avatar

the code in the instructions plays some file off the internet…that’s like a demo in there. I can’t figure out how to put the code in that is just for a player….and then how to point the player to play my file in my library.

It’s very similar to posting a video with the [youtube= ] shortcode.

After you’ve uploaded the file, get its url and then, in the editor, use:

    [audio http://whatevertheurlis.mp3]

And the player will be inserted linked to the file.

How do you get the files url since it’s in the media library inside of wordpress? Guess that’s what I don’t understand.

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s not intuitive. Once you’ve uploaded it, access your media library. (not the Gallery tab) Choose “show” for the file in question. A new box will open and in it will be Link URL. Copy that link and use it with the shortcode.

Be sure to use the brackets and to have a space b/w the word “audio” and the beginning of the link.

When I go back to the media library, there is no show for the file. There is EDIT, DELETE, and VIEW. When I select view, it opens up something that looks like a post from my blog. I’ve tried using the url in the top of that post that pops up, but it doesn’t work, it gets an error. You’re gonna have to talk dumn to me, I’m not much of a techy, and it’s showing right now.

Assuming you have a draft post for this and have uploaded the mp3:

Open the draft post in your editor. Choose Add Media (2nd from the end on the right) and from there choose Media Library.

If the mp3 is the most recent file you’ve uploaded, it will be the first one. The word Show is underlined on the far right. Click on it. There will then be an expanded, detailed box about that file. Scroll down to Link URL and copy that url.

Close the box, go back to your draft post and use the shortcode.

    Link URL is empty…..

Figured out what was wrong…..even though there is no url, found a way to click on it, then it launches a new IE session, and got the URL that way. Not sure why it’s working that way, but it is…and it’s making me put the code in the HTML side…

    thanks anyway.
