Adding widget image to side bar
-
I am trying to add an image widget to my side bar, but it doesn’t Save.
I copied the url of the image, added .jpg to it, and pasted it into the image field. Then I pasted the blog post url into the field at the bottom, where that should go. As per instructions! But the box for wp to make it small or larger, or centre it, says 0. When I hit Save, nothing happens.
When I opened my blog/sidebar, there was just the widget title and a question mark. So I deleted it.
What am I doing wrong please? I did exactly as it says in the Support link. I also tried copy-pasting it from the image gallery. Does the image have to be uploaded into a draft post by itself, first?
Would appreciate help. Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Widgets are installed here > Appearance > Widgets. They appear in sidebars and footers areas for widgets only. They do not appear in posts or pages. http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebars/
I see several widgets in the sidebar of the blog linked to your username so I assume this issue is resolved. If that’s not so then post again please and state exactly which widget you are referring to.

I think you are referring to the image widget and the answer is no.

Here are more details about the options for uploading images http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/images-the-three-link-options/ -
Hello @ timethief. As I stated, it is only the image widget I have trouble with, so the issue is not resolved. The image url (for a blog award) wouldn’t save in the field for it, I already followed the instructions given in your first link. I will try again tomorrow morning, and let you know what happens. Thank you!

The image url is http://janeadamsart.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/the-very-inspiring-blogger-award/viba-8-jpg
I tried again, putting this link into the url-image field of the Image widget, and then the link to the post, at the bottom.
Still no good. The image dimension box still says 0 and nothing appears.
I wrote jpg on the end of the url, but nothing happened.

That image does not exist. You can’t just write .jpg and expect it to work. You need to upload the image via the Add Media button, then capture the actual FILE URL. Then put that in the widget.
-
Yes, thank you, I just did that. I uploaded the image in Add Media, by clicking on Edit, and copied the URL and pasted it in the widget. Still nothing!
-
I have done again, exactly as you said. I went to Add Media in the side bar, and uploaded the image. Above the image is a url. It gets a blue line around when I click on it, but nothing else happens. I copy pasted it to the image widget field – still nothing.
Pleas tell me where to capture the file URL, in the upload or edit page. It is not clear to me. Sorry!
-
What is the actual URL of the image. In any image in your media library you can find the File URL.
-
In my media gallery, the permalink above the image is http://janeadamsart.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=9486
The file name over to the right of the page says just http://janeadamsart/files.wordpress.com
The image name is viba8.jpg

Image widgets require image URLs. This URL:
http://janeadamsart.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=9486
isn’t the URL of an image, it’s the URL of a page (that displays the image).
To get the URL of an image you have uploaded to your blog, you go to Media > Library, click Edit under the thumbnail, copy the URL from the File URL field of the Save module.
This is the URL you need:

I did this, pasting your link (my URL) directly, into the correct field. Still nothing – even though this link opens the image correctly.
I have tried this way several times before! Actually when I go into Edit under the thumbnail, the File URL field in the Save module gives only janeadamsart/files.wordpress.com, with the file name (viba8 underneath it.

My apologies ! – and thanks @ justpi and @ raincoaster and @ timethief. The Save took a little time, but the image is now on my home page – so ignore my last message. Topic resolved. Merry Xmas!
