  I am trying to add the code below to the sidebar on my page. How do I go about doing this?

  You can’t. It contains javascript which wp.com automatically strips out.

  any ideas why wp.com strips out java script??

  For security reasons. Myspace, Blogger and many other sites have been down for significant periods because of javascript exploits. And at WP.com, you’re essentially sharing the guts of your blog with everyone else using the same theme; that means you are exposed to the riskiest thing that the dumbest person on that theme thinks is okay. It’s too big a risk.

  Many sites offer HTML-only versions of their widgets for WP.com and other security-conscious sites. See if that one does.
