Adding Widgets From Other Sites

I’m building a sports blog and I’d love to be able to add a scoreboard widget. I tried unsuccessfully and the only reason why that I can find is that WordPress does not allow users to use javascript. I’m pretty much a novice at this and I don’t really know what javascript is. When I tried to add a scoreboard widget from SpringWidgets, WordPress shows up as an option as a Web site that accepts the widget. So 2 questions:

    1) Why does WordPress appear as an option if the widget won’t work on it?

    2) Is there any way to find some kind of a scoreboard widget or other sports widgets that aren’t javascript or that CAN be used on WordPress?

Just trying to make my site as cool and user-friendly as possible.

    Appreciate the help,

    1. There are many flavors of “WordPress”. Most likely those mean the self-hosted blogs running WordPress.ORG software. For a full explanation of the differences between COM and ORG, you should spend some time with the sticky at the top of these forums.

2.The only thing I can think of off the top of my head without another cup of coffee is using the RSS widget to show scores from the feed of a sports news site. http://support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-widget/
