Adding widgets to different themes.

I changed my theme to a 3-column theme, which I like, but it doesn’t seem to have an RSS feed widget and I don’t know how to add widgets. I’d like Facebook readers to be able to link my blog to Facebook, and stuff like that (Twitter, I guess, too). I looked through the other themes and some seem to have more of these link widget things than others. Do I have to change themes to get them, or can I add them without knowing anything about technical stuff? Do I need to change the theme to make it possible for readers to link the blog to elsewhere, and if so, how would I know which theme(s) permit this? So frustrating–I just want to write, but if no-one gets to read what I write . . . Does a tree fall in the forest . . .
