Additional CSS
-
I’ve tried following the instructions for ‘adding additional CSS classes to blocks.’ But I can’t get it to work. When I go to ‘advanced’ under ‘block,’ I see two fields: ‘HTML anchor,’ and ‘additional CSS class(es).’ I’m trying to use the second option, but it looks different from what’s shown in the instructions. What am I missing?

Hi jaltcoh
Can you please mention the site URL for which you are facing this issue?
Also, mention which CSS class you were trying to add and to which block. It will help us to provide you with the exact solution to your issue.
You can even add a screenshot of the code. To know more about how to add a screenshot here, please refer to the link below:https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/#sharing-your-screenshot

Hi, thanks for the response. This is my site, which has no real content yet: https://101yearsofmovies.wordpress.com/
My goal is to put a dotted border around a text block (though I’d be open to adding another CSS class just to see if I can do it). This is what I’ve been using:
p.dotted-border { border-color: black; border-style: dotted; border-width: 2px; }

Hi there,
p.dotted-border { border-color: black; border-style: dotted; border-width: 2px; }Have you added the above code under the additional CSS tab in the customizer?
It is working on my site. The code I added in additional CSS are is:
.dotted-border { border-color: black; border-style: dotted; border-width: 2px; }And the class that I added in the additional class field of paragraph setting is:
dotted-borderTo know more about how to add additional CSS to your site please refer to the link below:
https://wordpress.com/support/editing-css/Note: To add additional CSS your site must be under the premium plan or higher.
If you are also doing the same and still not able to get this, please let us know.

I have a free account, so I guess that’s the problem.
In the customizer, I went to “Block” > “Advanced” > “Additional CSS class(es)” and inserted the code in that field.

This brings up a related question: if I pay for a premium account and add this CSS, and after doing that I switch to a free (or personal) account, will I then still be able to do new posts using the same customized CSS, or will that go away?

Yes, a free plan doesn’t allow you to ad additional CSS code.
If you wish to upgrade. Here is the link that will help you to know more about plans features and pricing:

If you downgrade your plan, all the additional features that were there in your current plan will be removed.

To be clear, what I’m picturing is subscribing to premium for a few months and doing a number of posts with the CSS. Then I expect that I’d eventually switch to a free account. Would I then be unable to added a dotted border to new posts?

Sorry, I posted that last comment before I saw your response (we commented in the same minute). So even CSS customizations I’ve already made with a premium plan would be removed?

Your old custom CSS will also be removed once you downgrade your plan or you don’t renew your plan. You will not be able to create any new post with custom CSS.
Also, keep in mind if you purchase a plan you can get a refund in a limited time frame(within 14 days if billed yearly, otherwise 7 days for monthly billing). If you cancel the plan after that limit you will not be getting any refund. To know more about the refund policy of WordPress.com please refer to the link below:

Thanks. When you say my “old custom CSS” will be “removed” once I downgrade to less than a premium plan, am I correct in taking that to mean that any posts I’ve already done with the dotted border (for instance) would still have that border; I just couldn’t add a dotted border to anything new, even by copying and pasting within an old post? Or would the borders actually be removed from existing posts?

The CSS will be removed means all the customization you have done with custom CSS will be removed once your downgrade your plan from premium to personal or free.

You will not be able to add that to your new posts.

Yes, all the dotted borders you added via additional CSS on your previous posts will be removed.
