Additional domain

Hi, I’m using the free plan with domain mapped here. Domain bought from GoDaddy. This site was created a year ago.

Now, I would like to create another site and map another domain also bought from GoDaddy because I understand that now we cannot map domain bought from elsewhere without upgrading to Premium plan, which I do not need.

    Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What I meant to ask is… I don’t understand what will happen if I map another domain on the same blog, does it mean that all the contents in the existing blog will be shown in the website under the new domain??

    Hi Melissa,

If you want to use Custom domain which is without ending extension .wordpress.com , you’ll need an Upgraded WordPress.com account with any of the Plans shown here.

Each plan comes with one free domain credit. (once you upgrade your site with Personal, Premium or Business then notification will be shown ”claim free domain credit”) which you can use to get free Custom domain example .com or either you can Map a single domain which you already registered elsewhere for free.
This link which you can use to use domain register elsewhere.

Now, I would like to create another site and map another domain also bought from GoDaddy because I understand that now we cannot map domain bought from elsewhere without upgrading to Premium plan, which I do not need.

Even if you upgrade with a Personal plan you get free domain credit for Mapping your existing domain or register one.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Best Wishes.

    Hi vishalmukadam

Thank you for the explanation. But i dont need the personal plan either so this is quite inconvenient for me.

On another hand, I realised that we can map another domain in the same site. I don’t understand what will happen if I map another domain on the same blog, does it mean that all the contents in the existing blog will be shown in the website under the new domain??

I created a new free WordPress URL called “annwagnerlive” about a week ago. When I tried to login with my credentials today, it took me to an unused “Annwagn” WordPress site that I created apparently in 2010. I can’t seem to resolve and get to my newer site (annwagnerlive).

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Ann

    Yes.

Can you please check this support document
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

On WordPress.com, you can register a custom domain (for example, yourgroovydomain.com) and use it instead of your site’s current address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com). Your old address will still work, but we will automatically redirect traffic from your old address to your new one.

But i dont need the personal plan either so this is quite inconvenient for me.

Even if you are in the free plan and you select the option to Map a domain, it will automatically choose a Personal plan for you, which you can check it on the checkout page.

    Hi, @annwagn

I would request you to start a new thread.

I created a new free WordPress URL called “annwagnerlive” about a week ago. When I tried to login with my credentials today, it took me to an unused “Annwagn” WordPress site that I created apparently in 2010. I can’t seem to resolve and get to my newer site (annwagnerlive).

Can you please login to the WordPress.com
and on the left-hand side you’ll able to see the option in menu ”My Sites”
    > where you can create your appropriate site.

If you have further questions please try to make a new thread to avoid confusion.

    Regards.

  • Hi, @melissalsh

As you already own a domain, you can add as many additional domains to the same site without needing to add a plan. A plan is only a requirement for a site that doesn’t own a domain or domain mapping already (please make a note of this, @vishalmukadam)

You can add as many domains as you want to a site, and all of them will redirect to whichever domain you set as the primary domain. So any links you shared at the current domain will still load the correct posts on your site if you add a new domain, provided you keep both domains active and connected to the site.

If you want to create a brand new site and connect a domain there, you may be required to add a plan for that site first.

Sorry that I’m so blurr, I don’t understand… so right now, I have a site journeybella.com and now, I bought another domain, melissalsh.com and would like to map it to a site. if I buy an additional domain to map melissalsh.com, it will still route back to the contents of journeybella.com or it will be on a new site?

  • if I buy an additional domain to map melissalsh.com, it will still route back to the contents of journeybella.com or it will be on a new site?

If you buy the mapping for the site, journeybellacom.wordpress.com, it will take people to that site.

If you want it to take people to a different/new site, you first need to create the new site, but in that case you may be required to add a paid plan in order to add a mapping upgrade.
