additional new options: MistyLook

Not major, but now there are some additional new appearance options for MistyLook that the WordPress.com programmers sneaked into this template –ie. ability to customize background. But can’t say I’m overly thrilled by navigational arrows with the titles of previous and later posts for single post viewing. I realize the convenience of having it at the top of a display post. But seems to add clutter.

So I hid the navigational arrows for 1 one of my blogs.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh, that is a welcome addition to Mistylook. You can hide the search form now from theme options. I don’t find the previous and next post links too nasty. There are other themes here that are much worse.

On self-hosted blogs, I’ll modify the themes to show those links both at the bottom and at the top of the single post pages for visitor convenience.

I use misty look too and noticed the navigational arrows a couple of days ago. Looked for announcement on the WP blog, but did not see any news. I have a “Recent Posts” widget in the right column, so I don’t need it and agree it adds clutter. How can I hide them?

Where can I read about the other new options?

is this is? Hide single post navigation…

    thanks, I just hid it

I never totally understood why blog owner wanted to hide that search box..especially if it’s a blog with alot of posts and people are reading it. Helps the reader search for something great from the past.

But then, I critcize about the navigational arrow links. :)

Feel like a kid playing with colours. Colour use can make a difference. Or no colour background.

3rd blog: http://insidevancouver.ca (I’m just a team writer member here.. but it too uses MistyLook.)

You can add a search widget to the sidebar where it doesn’t interfere with the page navigation tabs. Lots of people complained that their tabs were being hidden behind the search box.

Useful know if I ever feel a powerful need to stack more pages and menus. Now if wordpress.com programmers could simply make it a standard, that all RSS widgets must have 1 line separating each post feed title… as seen in the blob of text in http://cyclewriteblog.wordpress.com

In fact, many of the newer templates have that built into the RSS widget. (Even though sometimes the blue font looks hokey/old school.)

One would hope by now that WordPress.com right across the board for ALL template themes would include minimal quality assurance standards for widget usability and other features, ie. this RSS widge, customizable background colour, customer header, option for navigational link arrows,.. It actually would save them $$$$$ with users requesting same thing over and over, etc.

Still I’m happy with these small, but meaningful add-ons.

Most definitely. I’ve always liked MistyLook and these are good additions.

I liked the look of MistyLook from the very beginning-nearly 2 years ago– when I chose my theme– and still do.

@maidiebike what I did to work around the jumbled look due to lack of spacing between titles in the latest post widget is to create my own customized widgets of Recent Posts, Popular Posts etc. Of course I have to update manually with each new post, but on the plus side, I can delete some of the less popular or dated recent posts

Is there a reason electricia why some of the fonts in different widgets have different font styles? (excluding the cloud tag widget which has its own mind)

When I created the text for most of the widgets, I did it using the new post box and html & visual editor. After previewing it, I pasted into the widget. This idea has been mentioned in the support forum a few times. It let me customize with bold font, larger font and color as well as add links and images. I like using the custom widgets with larger font and color to draw readers attention to an important event or issue.

I discovered that in the title box of a text widget, all of the letters become caps, even if typed in lower case. Color doesn’t show up in title box, even if coded.. Only my Subscribe, flickr, and twitter widgets use this default . With the other widgets (Recent Posts, Popular Posts, etc) I used color by leaving the title box blank and instead including the title in the text which I created.
