Address already taken, of course
-
I know I’m not the first person to ever have this issue, and I have read plenty of threads about it here on WP; I simply cannot believe the fatuous way in which WP handles these issues.
I wanted the address everdream.wordpress.com, but WP told me it is already taken. I go to the site, and there is a blog there that has exactly ONE post. The post reads, “Test post, yay” and is dated for 2006. It is completely vacuous that someone can use an address ONE TIME in 2006 and WP just lets it be so for nearly thirteen years because their blogs “don’t expire”.
Hello: first of all, that is not a blog–that is someone’s forgotten aspiration. Keyword being ‘forgotten’, as in they no longer care about it/are interested in pursuing it.
I can understand if someone has a blog that was full of many posts and then they abandoned it for almost thirteen years and the address was left intact with the blog for future readers because of the large amount of content; but it is absolutely, positively clear that the person who obtained everdream.wordpress.com has not made any effort nor has any intention of making any further effort to make that address an active, live site that is used intentionally with purpose on a regular basis. Sites like that are a waste of space and pointless to leave intact (unless your point is to make it so that one else can use the address/domain).
I can understand if someone takes a domain and then leaves their site empty for a year or two while they build/design their own custom layout/CSS/etc. and get their content in order (because people who work for a living and have lives need a year or two do get something like that together, which, as I said, is completely and entirely understandable); but something like everdream.wordpress.com needs to be taken down so that someone else (like myself) can use the domain for his/her/their purposes. Like I said, I could understand if that blog post were a couple of years old, but that single post is literally almost thirteen years old.
I am really trying to be as respectful as I can, considering the issue in question. I mean, really? If the “blog” has just that one post and hasn’t been used in almost thirteen years, for the love of Pete just take the account/blog down and restore the address to the pool of available addresses in your system, WP! (Please?)

wordpress.com never takes a site or blog down because someone asks so. Only the owner can do so. You could try to contact the owner of that site or just choose another name for your site.

Hi there,
We do not take sites offline or recycle the addresses due to inactivity. We do not make exceptions to this policy.
