  how do I send to specific people?

  Thank you for responding! I tried that, but (a) it allows only 10 addresses, and I have 40-odd, and (b) gave a message that usernames were needed (?)
  I’m essentially trying to send a travel journal to specific friends.
  Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

  You can add as many as you want…WordPress only allows you to enter them in batches of 10.

  To invite others to participate in your blog see:
  adding users http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
  user roles http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

  There is no maximum number of total blog contributors. The limit is 10 invitations at any point in time. It’s a spammer prevention limit. So simply wait and then send out 10 more.

  That worked! EXCEPT the invitation means they have to create a WordPress account. Who wants to go to that trouble, especially if they are elderly?
  Ah well, I’ll have to try something else.

  If they did not create an account then how would the software differentiate between them and any hacker?
