Admin bar doesn't show up unless third-party cookies are disabled

I have the same problem that’s described in this threat from 2012:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/admin-bar-not-show-up/

When I disable third-party cookies in Chrome, the problem disappears. I have the same problem also in Edge. It’s specific to the theme I’m using (Aquene), as I didn’t have that problem with my previous theme (Rebalance).

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @telegramm, that is odd. I don’t think it’s your theme, since I can see an admin bar on your site with the theme you have enabled.

And it sounds like there’s a cookie coming from WordPress.com while you’re viewing your site that’s hiding the bar, and blocking that allows the admin bar to appear.

Is this issue happening on all of your WordPress.com sites or just this one with a custom domain?

Also, can you see the black bar on sites that aren’t yours? Please check each of these with and without the third party cookies being blocked:

All of them should have the black admin bar at the top. But we used to have a setting to hide it. That was quite a while ago, and as far as I know we don’t have a settings page for that anymore. But if your account was set that way at some point, it could explain the mystery.

So, as I told this morning, blocking third-party cookies made the admin bar appear. Strangely, it’s still there now even after I unblocked third-party cookies again.

On all the sites that you linked I can see the admin bar. Also on my other sites I can see the admin bar. In my memory, when I still had the problem, it only occurred with onabike.cc. It appeared when I switched the theme, upgraded to premium, and set up the onabike.cc domain (which I didn’t buy via WordPress). All that happened the same day.

Still, now everything works as it should regardless of how I adjust the third-party cookie setting, so I can’t replicate what caused the problem.

  • Glad that it is now working, but let us know if you are ever able to replicate the issue.

    Thanks!
