I cannot deactivate the wordpress.com admin bar and the option does not exist in the settings->writing like all the support docs say.

    Hi there!

I noticed that your site is using the WordPress.org software and it’s connected to WordPress.com using the Jetpack plugin. If you want to hide the WordPress.com admin bar, you would want to navigate to your site’s WP Admin dashboard → Jetpack → Settings → Writing. (It’s not just at Settings → Writing, you need to navigate to Jetpack → Settings → Writing.)

At the bottom of that page, you’ll find the following option:

    Enable the WordPress.com toolbar

You can turn that off to disable the WordPress.com admin bar from your WordPress.org site.

    Hope that helps!

@aisajib, yes I understand I did not say “jetpack->settings->writing”. I meant to include it. The option is not visible period in any settings anywhere in jetpack.

We can only help with sites hosted here at WordPress.com. Since your site is not hosted with us, we can’t help here but I can get you pointed in the right direction.

The instructions from Jetpack are valid so if you don’t see them in the plugin settings you’ll need to do the following to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Disable all other plugins, then try again. If that works, turn your plugins back on one-by-one until you start seeing the problem again. Then note the plugin that caused this error and get in touch with Jetpack Support (links below).

    2. If the plugin step above doesn’t help, try activating Twenty Seventeen temporarily as your theme. Then check again. If it starts working, likely something in your theme is broken and you should get in touch with your theme’s author.

    3. Check the Known Issues list and make sure you aren’t using a plugin or theme listed there:
    https://jetpack.com/known-issues/

If you’re still having the problem after following these steps, please contact Jetpack Support about this via https://jetpack.com/contact-support/?rel=support if you have a paid plan, or https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/ if you do not.

    Hope that helps.

Then I’ll ask for a site that is hosted on wordpress.com “fgcai.org”

The option does not exist where all the support docs say it should.

  • For sites hosted on WordPress.com directly (fgcai.org uses our business hosting) the option does not exist. Sites on WordPress.com hosting have the wordpress.com admin bar as the only option. You need to hide the WordPress.com admin bar on that site?

For your self-hosted site on flywheel, you have a few options here:

    • It can sometimes be the case that a plugin conflict will cause settings to go missing. You can temporarily deactivate all plugins except Jetpack and see if the option returns. Then reactivate your plugins one at a time to locate the one that is causing the setting to disappear.
    • I’d also recommend reaching out to Flywheel support, as it may be the case that they are hiding the option as some hosts do custom filters to hide some settings

If you are still having issues after trying those two things, you can contact Jetpack support to have them take a closer look as that site would behave differently than sites we host directly on WordPress.com: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/

Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
