Admin control panel changed today?

Bear with me please, this is a little difficult to explain.

I’m using the free, online wordpress blog, if that matters any. On to my question:

Today, I noticed in the WP admin panel (in your dashboard, and click “write”) that the controls have changed. In the main part, where you write your posts, there used to be two tabs…one for rich text editing, and the other was for code editing. Also, the controls were a lot simpler, there were various buttons for posting links, making text appear as bold and so forth.

As of today, there only seems to be one window, which is more of the “code” variety I explained earlier. Meaning, if I were to insert a link, I’d see the html, instead of just the highlighted word. What makes the changes really frustrating is that I can no longer make links open in new windows. I did some googling and found out about adding target= _blank to the end of the tag…let’s just say it isn’t working out so well.

In any case, is there a way to go back to the original control scheme? For what it’s worth, I found the previous one benefited blogging and HTML “noobs” such as myself.

Hopefully I’m clear. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Yes, it does actually. If your blog is hosted here at wordpress.com, you’re in teh right place. If you’re hosted elsewhere, than you need to be over at http://wordpress.org as you would be running different software than we do here at wp.com.

If you use the rich text editor, you should have two tabs labeled “Visual” and “Code.” This sounds like what you’re looking for. If so, please visit Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile and make sure the box labeled “Use the visual rich editor when writing” is checked.
It sounds like you got switched to the normal text editor some how.

    Hope this helps,

Hello there, I’m a newbee and don’t know a lot of blogging and coding and html nor RSS. I’m trying to upload some files ty my server and try to follow some instructions that I get from a friend. Oke, but here is my question…….

I want to make my blog as interesthing as I see everywhere. Now I have followed the instructions and they mentioned a cpanel. But the problem is that I can not find the cpanel.

My blog is hosted at another server but I also have a free blog. So please can someone help me how I can get access to my cpanel?

    Thansk in advance.

You’d have to talk to your host about that.

You’re at the wrong site anyway for the blog you’re talking about. If it’s hosted elsewhere than wp.com, you’re using a different version of wordpress than we have here at wp.com. You need to be over at http://wordpress.org but they’re going to tell you talk to your host as well.

    Hope this helps,

YAY…just want to say thank you.
I had changed templates and my “Visual” editor disappeared, too.
Thank you for helping to solve the issue!

It just changed for me as well, for no reason I can imagine. I clicked away from the page and then onto it again and all was well.

There’s actually a ticket and a fix/ patch in trac on the issue as it’s happening with regular wordpress as well. (I can’t get trac to come up or I’d give you a link)

I’d be lost without the ability to enter or edit code…..but I understand many just want to type.
