admin invitation emails are never received

  Hello, the admin of the blog https://auditingalgorithms.wordpress.com/ is trying to invite me to be an administrator on that blog. She invited this wordpress.com account (@niftyc), and her interface shows that I have been invited along with a picture of my face so I know she has the right account. However, I never receive any emails.

  I have been invited to be an editor of other wordpress.com blogs and I did receive those emails just fine. I have checked my spam folder and found nothing. I have added (email visible only to moderators and staff) to my contacts list. I also changed the email address of my wordpress.com account twice and had her re-send the invitations to see if that might be the issue. But two different email accounts on two different email providers still did not receive the invitation emails.

  Any ideas what is going on?

  I searched the existing answers but the only solutions that seem applicable are about spam filters and I have already checked that.

  Okay we got it to work finally.

  But the way that we got it to work was to NOT send the invitation to my wordpress.com user ID (niftyc). Instead we used an email address — coincidentally it was NOT the email address associated with my wordpress.com user ID. I think that means that in some circumstances sending invites to a wordpress.com user ID may be broken somehow. Even though it appears to work the email is not sent. I don’t know any other way to explain this situation.
