    Hello!

We have three WordPress hosted websites, all of which we believe to be admin controlled by someone who left our company back in 2022.

We believe we know the name of the person, but have no way of accessing his email account.

We are not sure if there are paid upgrades on the account, so unsure as to what proof of ownerships we can provide.

We even have the usernames connected to the sites; but can’t go anywhere.

    Please help!

First things first: what is the URL of those sites?

Hello @davidbrightb6da55052b! Thanks for letting us know about this.

In this case, since those sites are owned by a different user, you can ask the current owner to transfer them to you by following this guide:

    https://wordpress.com/support/transfer-a-site/

If that’s not possible and you don’t have access to the email linked to the sites, the only option would be to try our account recovery method so you can prove ownership of the sites:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership

Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Thanks for replying. The suspected known owner is no longer in the company, so that is not an option.

AFAIK, we don’t pay for these services, so cannot verify by any methods available – especially the transaction ID route.

Are there other options? Right now, even making them private would be sufficient if taking ownership and subsequently deleting them is not possible.

Thanks for sharing that info @davidbrightb6da55052b, I completely understand.

In this case, if you don’t have access to the email linked to the account and also don’t have the required documentation to prove the ownership, the only option would be to request making the sites private so they will no longer be accessible to the public.

You can request to make them private by following this guide:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established

Please make sure to follow those steps, and if you have any questions we’ll be here to help.

OK – so we would like to set it to private. Where do I make that request, as the section in that page you shared only seems to show how to set it once you have ownership. Is there a form to complete?
