Admin Level Access

    Hi Team Word Press,

I’m Director and sole owner of our website and my access was falsely put back down from ADMIN to a manger on my website. Can you please assist me in getting back that admin access back?

  • Hi there,

What is the URL of the site? The account you’re using to post here doesn’t own any sites with us, nor is this account a user on any site hosted with us. The WordPress software also don’t have a “manager” user role available by default, so if that role exists on your site, it’s being added by a plugin.

Only an existing admin on a site can add a user or change the role of an existing user, and for sites hosted here on WordPress.com we don’t change the role of any user at their request. We could only do that at the site owner’s request, though the site owner has all the access necessary to do this themselves.

For sites using WordPress at other hosting providers, we don’t even have the ability to do that, as we have no control over or access to the dashboard on sites that we don’t host.

So to get this sorted out, you’ll need to contact an existing admin, or the owner/webmaster for the site in question.

If you’re the only user on the site, it’s possible whatever plugin is adding the “manager” role to your site might have also changed your user role. That would actually point to it being a very poorly-designed plugin, but that aside, in that case you’ll need to contact your hosting provider so they can help you access the site’s database. Then you can change the user role directly from there.

But if you can tell us the site’s URL, we can take a look and help point you in the right direction to get help with this.
