Admin Login?
-
I can log into wordpress.com just fine to get to my dashboard, but when I go to my domain name/site, which is under construction and try to click the ‘Admin Login’ button, it doesn’t recognize my email or username. Should I be able to log in using that button, or should I just ignore it and only log in via wordpress.com?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I see that http://beingamiable.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site. It’s not a WordPress.com site.
When you are able to access http://beingamiable.com/ using your WordPress.com dashboard, it ideally means that you have an established Jetpack connection that links this site with your WordPress.com dashboard.
Logging in on the WordPress.com dashboard requires you to have a WordPress.com account.
Alternatively, when you visit http://beingamiable.com/wp-login.php to login, you would need the actual WordPress setup’s login username and password. You will ideally have to speak to your hosting provider “Bluehost” to get the username and password that you set during the creation of your account.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions.

Thank you, strikebuys! I think it makes sense, but I’m not sure why I would have a different username/password for WP.com vs. WP.org. And of course I’m a newbie and still learning. What I’m understanding, though, is that I have the login info for .org, but I need to reach out to Bluehost to get my info for .com?
When will I need to sign into one vs the other, and why?
Thanks again!

To clarify, WordPress is originally a standalone blogging software. The one you set up with Bluehost (http://beingamiable.com/) is one such setup (a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site)
WordPress.com is a bit different in how it works. It basically runs on the same WordPress technology, but is managed by Automattic (company behind WordPress.com) and does not necessarily to be managed by you. That means, all WordPress upgrades and hosting is done by Automattic, not you/Bluehost in the case of a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site.
When you set up http://beingamiable.com/, ideally you will be using the wp-admin dashboard to work, using the username and password you set during the creation of this WordPress site. The wp-admin dashboard is the dashboard you see when you login at http://beingamiable.com/wp-login.php
Now, to explain how you are able to login into WordPress.com dashboard and access the same content, you will need to learn about what Jetpack is and how it connects a self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site with the WordPress.com dashboard.
You can learn about all the Jetpack features here: https://jetpack.com/features/ and Jetpack is the medium that enables you to access self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) sites using the WordPress.com dashboard.
WordPress.com dashboard is officially known as WordPress.com Calypso. You can learn about it here: https://ma.tt/2015/11/dance-to-calypso/
Using WordPress.com dashboard is mostly about having access to the latest features offered by Jetpack/WordPress.com.
The username/password you use on WordPress.com is different from your WordPress site’s username/password. You can link multiple WordPress sites to your WordPress.com account, and that’s why WordPress.com username/password is different from the one you have on your self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site.
Hope this clarifies things a bit. Feel free to get back if you ever have any questions, and I would only be happy about answering you!

Wow, thank you for the detailed response!
Okay, so let me put it into my words so I know I understand: My WP.org dashboard that I’m able to sign into is kind of my master/mother ship where I’m able to control my one (and maybe multiple, eventually) site(s). Then, if I decide to build other sites, those sites will have their own sign in info, apart from my current login info and from the one I’m about to obtain via WP.com. Correct?
I’m looking into JetPack, and have another question: it looked like JetPack was included in my BlueHost/Wordpress package that I bought. And with your JetPack link, it looks like I’m still signed in on WordPress when I click it (which to me, means that I have a JetPack account, and I don’t need to purchase one, correct?).
So I started reading the Getting Started section under the Support tab, and my question is if my next/only step (to get the WP.com account that you’re talking about) is to click the link on the step that says: “Here are the system requirements for Jetpack: A WordPress.com account. Sign up for one here.”
Thank you!!

Jetpack is free and available for all WordPress.com users.
If you are able to use your site http://beingamiable.com/ on “WordPress.com”, that ideally means that it has Jetpack installed and enabled.
It’s connected to your WordPress.com account “beingamiable”
You can open https://wordpress.com/sites to see that http://beingamiable.com/ shows up there.
So now, you can either use WordPress.com’s dashboard to blog, or use http://beingamiable.com/wp-admin to blog.
Both should work.
Does this clarify things? I am right here if you have questions. Happy to help!

Okay, great, thank you! And of course one more answered question leads to another question… lol!
So you’re right, JetPack looks like it’s working and connecting to my beingamiable.com site. When I clicked the link that I asked about before (in JetPack’s site), it took me right back to my dashboard. So I think that’s good!
You were also correct, in that when I clicked on /sites, my beingamiable login info worked there. However, while I’ve been working this morning, I have visited this page twice, and both times it had to send me a code to my cell. So I’m not sure if that’s supposed to keep happening…
Anyway, my real question, and original one that I still haven’t been able to figure out, unfortunately (though you’ve been very helpful!), is that when I’m in my dashboard, I can’t customize my theme because it asks me my login info, which is wrong apparently. I’ve bought my theme and everything, but when I click on the “Customize” button in the Themes section on the left of my dashboard, it brings me to another login page where it’s not accepting my username or email. I’ve also googled what you said before about finding out my other login info and I’ve been to bluehost to find out, but my research is falling short.
Do you know if there’s anyone I could call to talk to and get that other login info? I keep trying the username and email I used for BlueHost and WordPress, but it’s saying that neither of them are valid… I’m sorry, I’m really trying to learn and not be such a newb lol. Thank you again in advance!

Here is what you should try. Open http://beingamiable.com/wp-login.php and click on the “Lost your password?” button. Enter your WordPress site’s username.
It’s not necessarily “beingamiable”, which is your WordPress.com username.
Do you remember setting a username/email ID when you created that WordPress site on Bluehost? That is what you should enter on that lost password screen, and you will be receiving an email about the password reset.
You can set a new password.
Next, go to https://wordpress.com/customize, choose beingamiable.com from that list.
It should take you to https://beingamiable.com/wp-admin/customize.php (if asked for login information, use the email ID/username + new password that you set now) and you can customize your WordPress site.
I hope this helps. As always, happy to help! Please feel free to get back if you have questions.
