Administrator rights lost, unknown email accounts appeared.
-
Hello, everyone.
I hadn’t used the accounts associated to my usernames gplusg and doublegart during a pair of years. When I tried to login back, my passwords (which I could remember) did not work. I assumed I had forgotten them, asked for e-mail recovery, changed the passwords and got in.
First thing I tried was edit my profile and moderate the comments… But I couldn’t. No “edit” sign, no access to the pages. Then I realize half the dashboard is gone.
I ask at support, and google sends me to wordpress.org, where I don’t understand most of what’s being said, since they have to solve their own problems because they have their own hosting. But I get to know that some accounts were hacked.
I check up here:
https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogsI no longer appear as administrator in my blogs. I appear as contributor in one, and author in the other.
I feel the terrible fear that I might have opened these blogs with some long forgotten email account. I see in that previous panel an option called “Post by Email”. I click on “enable”. The account that appears is:
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
I click on regenerate, and the addresses that appear are like this:
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)All in the same vein. I just clicked on “delete” to disable the options again.
Any ideas about what might be going on and what I can do to solve it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks, doublegart. This is written perfectly. Let me just research it a bit, I’ll be right back.

Hi,
I see one of your sites is http://isabelmguzman.wordpress.com which is working fine.
There is another site http://doublegart.wordpress.com/ which has been deleted.
Do you have another site that you need help with or are those just the two? If you have another one, can you post the website address?
-
If the sites are set to “Moderate Comments” – leave a comment and the notice usually goes to the account Admin / owner (sometimes others also) – that might help you chase down the email address if it is one you still use
-
I did delete doublegart myself. I did have admin rights on that one, and it was completely empty, so I chose to drop the dead weight.
The sites I need help with are:
User name doublegart:
isabelmguzman.wordpress.com
geyge.wordpress.comUser name gplusg:
arteisabelmguzman.wordpress.com (This is basically a clone of isabelmguzman.wordpress.com, only in Spanish. I didn’t know by then I could open five blogs with just one username).
I need to go to work, but yes, basically, I have lost admin rights in all of them.
I fear something. I might have screwed this up myself. I had one single blog in each of those accounts in which I DID have admin access. Those blogs had something in common: nothing was written on them. First thing I did was erase them. And then, when I went to edit the others, I realized I didn’t have admin access.
Maybe I screwed up by erasing those two accounts. In any case, there’s something fishy here, I DID have admin accounts in all those blogs. I remember editing personally my pages, galleries and entries.
Thank you very much for your help so far. Need to go to work, I’ll be back in about three hours. Meanwhile, I’ll try to think what’s happened.
Thanks all of you,
Isabel
Mike99362: I cannot moderate the comments, I’ve tried. I cannot see the square to tick and select them, nor the options “edit, reply, delete, hide”, etc. Thanks :-)
I don’t think it’s another email address involved. I only have three functioning ones and am using the two most important ones. I cannot swear, but… I would swear I wouldn’t be stupid enough to open my two main artistic galleries with any email account that wasn’t my primary one and my almost primary one. Maybe I did, but I doubt it: the contact sections of those sites lead to those two email addresses I’m using to log in. I have a bad memory, but I like to think that I’m not that silly ;-) Thank you for the suggestion, I will try once I get back from work. -
Hi,
I’ll tag this for staff and they will be able to help you figure it out. Just wait patiently because full staff support won’t be back until September 24.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/full-staff-support-will-return-september-24?replies=1Good luck!
-
Thank you. I had read before that support was cut short until september the 23rd. Besides, I bet when they come back they’ll have some workload to catch up to… So I’ll just keep on creating content, and I will wait until almost october to recover the blogs.

You were never an administrator on http://isabelmguzman.wordpress.com/
You were added as a contributor to it 6 years ago and never promoted above that.
There is another account which is the only administrator the blog has ever had.
-
Thank you, macmanx. Can you tell me either the username or email of that account which is the administrator?
-
-
I logged in with that one and had also lost the admin status there. Will try again, I might have done something wrong the previous time.
-
Yeah, that one definitely has admin rights. If it doesn’t work again, please reply here from that account.
-
Argh. I was mistaken: I had gotten into both gplusg and doublegart… but I cannot for the life of me remember the geyge password. Plus, that means I’ve exhausted the e-mail accounts I use regularly. So mike99362 was right, and I did the stupid thing: put the admin rights in the accounts associated to a lost email account.
I will try my best to remember that password, but I really screwed up on that one. Oh, well… Thank you very much.

We have some additional options at http://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/ which might help.
-
Can I ask you another question?
I am afraid when trying to get into geyge, I clicked on the “lost your password” option. I was expecting to get an email on any of my accounts. I even recovered an old one, but no wordpress email there.
I just when back to the log in site and am trying to remember the password. But I am worried that the password might have been cancelled or put on hold because of the recovery email. In theory, if I do not touch that email, the old password should be working, right?
Sorry to pester you this much. Now that I can have many blogs in one account, as soon as I recover I’m going to just simplify… I will move all the blogs I want to keep to just one account. Least I can do is try to make sure this hassle doesn’t happen again.
-
Hi, doublegard,
Yes, I believe as long as you haven’t touched the email, the old password should work.
-
Thanks again, macmanx and honeysilvas. I am just wondering now to which a million times cursed email account that username is attached. I recovered the only old email account that might have been a possibility and the recovery emails do not get there. No idea from where to go now. No password is working with geyge.
Think I’ll go to sleep and keep on working tomorrow…
-
Hi, doublegart!
As macmanx mentioned, try the Account Recovery Form at
https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recoveryHere’s how to fill that form:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-formHope that helps!
-
Thank you all. Filled in and got an answer with a solution already. If this is how wordpress works when support is not available, I must say that the service is impressive.
I must also say that I thought myself relatively computer and internet savvy, even if only at user-level… If I screwed this badly (and I was pretty sure I wouldn’t), I cannot imagine all the stuff you have to deal with daily. Any way of inviting you to a beer or cola? (Or watch your videos, subscribe to your channels, whatever). You should get some serious recognition, and at this point I’m pretty sure “thank you” doesn’t cut it.
