All wordpress.COM ads are family friendly ads.

To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising. http://en.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/

Any other ads appearing to you are not placed by WordPress.com. If you see any other ads then you could have an issue on your browser or computer. Unfortunately they can be being placed there by software on your own computer or your visitors’. Such ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or adware found in some games and shopping sites and toolbars that may have been installed in a browser.

These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

Will you provide a screenshot for Staff please? You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

please load the pictures into your media library – no need to link to them here – do the pictures have a small “about these ads” link showing?

sometimes bad ads are the result of infected browsers or bad browser add in’s

all ads here should be family friendly – but sometimes stuff slips through – the staff takes the ad rating seriously

you can also buy the no ads upgrade which is now part of the $99.-/yr upgrade if you want to take all ads off

I have flagged this for the staff to help

Also, note that if you purchase either a Business upgrade or a Premium upgrade all ads will be eliminated from your site. See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ or a Business bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/business/

I uploaded the Picture of offensive ads that a customer sent to me…that was at the bottom of my blog past. I is located in the “media” section of my site.

Thanks, for uploading it for Staff to examine. All you need now is patience while waiting fro them to work their way forward to this thread.

  • WordPress.com operates on a freemium business model where it does not cost anything to use the service at its most basic. In order to pay for offering those free websites, we display ads on our free users sites. While we do our best to keep our ads “family friendly” as has been said, there are always going to be situations where a particular ad does not agree with someone.

I would suggest two different options:

    1. Purchase the WordPress.com Premium upgrade that includes the No Ads upgrade to remove ads from your site. This is what most WordPress.com users who are building sites for their business choose to do. Not only does it increase the professionalism of your site by removing ads, it also gives you a custom domain registration. Using a custom domain is another simple change to your site that increases professionalism.

    2. Move to a self-hosted WordPress.org site. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

Of course, there are many other site builders out there that you can explore as well. Perhaps one of them will suit your needs better.
