Ads appearing on site

    I’ve just noticed that AdChoices are appearing on my posts when I view the site not logging in (on my custom domain carolinehbishop.co.uk). I don’t want ads and I didn’t ask for them to be there – how can I turn this off? They’re not even nice ads!

    WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

    Thanks timethief, had no idea about any of this. When I searched for ‘ads’ in WordPress help, nothing came up, so it’s not that easy to find!
    Will prob purchase upgrade.

    On one hand, I’m sure many bloggers are not aware of what’s on their blogs as they don’t view them when they are logged out and have theit AdBlockers disabled. On the other, there are many who want to make a bit of income from ads.

    There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. This is the homepage for the WordAds program: http://www.wordads.co/ There is where you find the application page as well as FAQs.

    Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds, no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.com
