Ads covering up my photographs

  • Unknown's avatar

Starting last week, ads have been covering up all or the lower portion of the photographs in my posts. For some time ads had been appearing after the end of each post, and I understand the need for WordPress to make money that way. But to cover up the photographs in a photography blog strikes me as going too far. How can I go back to having ads appear only after the end of each post?

  • Hi there,

Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing from your end? I am not seeing ads covering posts from this end. Feel free to upload the screenshot to your media library – I’ll be able to access the image from there and then further assist. Thanks!

I’ve added two pictures to my media library.

img_7066-1.jpeg shows how an ad starts out by completely covering a photograph in one of my posts.

img_7067-1.jpeg shows that after several seconds the ad shrinks to a bar across the lower portion of my photograph but still covers that lower portion of the photograph.

  • Hi there,

That does not look like one of our ads, which has us thinking that your computer may be infected with adware.

Specifically, all our house ads have a way to report (objectionable content) which you see in my screenshot here:

I do not see that in your screenshots which is why I think you have an issue adware injections. Out of curiosity do you see these same ads if you visit your site in a different computer or a different device like a smartphone or tablet? What if you visit your site on your computer, but use a different browser (like Firefox instead of Chrome) do you notice that there are no ads on images if you try this test?

If you find that the issue is specific to your Chrome browser, you can follow these steps to remove adware: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2765944

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

I appreciate your help. I do indeed normally use Google Chrome as my browser. When I looked at my blog with a couple of other browsers the annoying ads on top of my photographs didn’t appear. I followed the instructions to remove adware from Chrome, and so far the ads haven’t returned. Thanks again.

  • That’s awesome news. Thanks for letting us know. Be sure to write back if you have any other questions in the future.
