Ads on blogs all the time now?

    I just tried looking at some of my wordpress.com blogs while not logged in to WordPress and using someone else’s computer that did not have AdBlock Plus.

    Large adverts that ruin the look of the blogs appeared on every page, every time.

    Very disappointing. I seem to remember a quote from WordPress about showing ads “very occasionally” and only when arriving at the page via a search engine.

    Is there any official confirmation that ads are now always shown?

    WordPress.com has never addressed how they define “occasionally”. I have also been running my browsers without enabling AdBlock for some time now. I have observed a dramatic increase in ads displaying both on blogs that have strong traffic and those that have very littel traffic. There has been no announcements of any kind and I don’t expect there will be one.

    If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this link small About These Ads link what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising.

    However, do note what follows because every day we get bloggers here blaming WordPress.com for running ads they are not running at all.

    WordPress.com does not use text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments. If you are seeing those then that’s a browser-ad-on issue, or in some cases, it’s embedded into free games downloaded from the internet. See here: Bloggers: Beware of Adware.

    All of WordPress.com ads are family-friendly. If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it, upload it via Media -> Add New to your Media Library. Then return to this thread to post the file name to let Staff them know it’s there for them to view.

    Lastly, note to eliminate all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs we can purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.
