Ads showing up on WordPress!!??
-
I’ve just noticed after almost a year of using WordPress that suddenly advertisements (and very un-professional and cheesy ones at best) are now showing up on my blog page. I chose WordPress as my blogging home because of its professional templates. I take my page very serious as a professional Photographer and am now at a loss because of these ads.
I get the fact that WordPress sometimes uses ads to ‘pay the bills’, and I know that they don’t show up on signed in users…but what if most of your traffic comes from non-wordpress users?? We are all part of a global village these days, and although WordPress may be a great blogging site, it is not the only one out there. The solution is to upgrade to a ‘non-ad’ package for $30 per year! Granted, it’s not about the money, it’s about the principle.
Am I alone on this, or are other’s experiencing the same bitter taste in their mouths?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated…

WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

@laslistrik
I notice you have only been a member for 3 hours. Ads are only displayed on some blogs some of the time. -
Once ads show up on your blog, are they there permanently? And how long does it usually take for ads to come off of the site after a person upgrades?
-
All free hosted blogs are subject to having ads displayed on them unless they have a No-Ads upgrade. No particular ads are “permanent” as far as I know. They do change. When I purchased a No-Ads upgrade the ads disppeared the same day I purchased it.

With the no-ads upgrade, the change is immediate nearly, and most definitely in less than an hour. The thing is, you might have to clear your browser cache and then take another look since some browsers are very reluctant to update cached files and will serve up old ones instead.
