Adsense

We’re not allowed to run Adsense or other ads on WordPress.com blogs. I assume the player would fall under the same criteria?

Some people believe that upgrades exempt them from the terms of service, which isn’t correct. It’s important to know that before you spend money in the hope of being able to add Adsense. The only currently-offered upgrade that will allow you to add advertising is the VIP upgrade, which costs several hundred dollars to set up, and several hundred dollars every month.

Hello Mark,
Does Blogspot allow Google’s Adsense? What host are you referring to in the following post?
Thanks.

Does Blogspot allow Google’s Adsense?
Of course. Google owns bot Adsense and Blogger.

so there is no way that I can add adsense to my blogs? I want to host on my own but
its critical to get some ads on my site to cover my cost, is there really no way to do this?
I have seen many wordpress powered blogs using adsense but they are running
on seperate domains and are not hosted by wordpress.com.Any suggestions?

@illone84 – you are correct, there is no way right now to run Adsense on wp.com blogs. You are also correct that you have seen blogs powered by wp (wordpress.org) using Adsense. You say you want to self-host, so the simple solution is to get the free software from wp.org and start blogging.

Thanks for the reply ellaella.
So please correct me if I am wrong, basically what you are saying is that
on wp.blogs.com you cannot use “google adsense” but on websites (seperate domains)
you can.
example http://www.finlandforthought.net/ is using wordpress software but using
google adsense on a seperate domain from wp.blogs.comThanks!
-
ilone84: i think that site is a self-hosted wordpress blog, which is different than a wp.com-hosted blog.
-
when we have a wp.com blog, wordpress.com is our host and we use the wordpress multiuser install. a self-hosted blog has a different host and uses the wordpress software.

If you intend to export your wordpress.com blog contents and import them into a template from wordpress.org then note that there is an import and export function for this purpose in your dashboard.
-> dashboard -> manage -> export -> wordpress(1) You can export the contents of your blog (posts, comments, categories) in the form of an xml file to your desktop and then import the xml file into the other blog site.
(2) The blogroll links must be separately exported and re-categorized. That means you will have to re-assign them to each link but it’s better than copying and pasting those links yet again. :)
Quick note about the blogroll. The OPML format doesn’t support categories even though they’ll be there when you do the export. Best bet would be to assign the major category for them when you go to import them as you’re going to have to reassign them afterwards anyway.”
Blogroll- If you had links, you can export them out at
http://mydomain.com/wp-links-opml.php (You must change “my domain” to your own url, of course.)Open that exported blogroll (links) xml file in a plain text editor like NotePad and save as a *.txt file. Be sure you are using a plain ext editor and then import the *.txt file you saved into your new blog at dashboard -> blogroll -> import Links.
Important Note: The blogroll (links) xml file needs to be saved as a *.txt doc in a plain text editor like Notepad. This is because if you were to save it as a text rich text document using for example Microsoft Wordpad or Micorsoft Word (horrors!) those programs would add in all kinds of garbage like fonts and unusual html formatting code that mess will it up.
