Adsense / Advertisements
-
Dear Support
We expect wordpress to allow exhibition of Adsense and other Ads on our blogs, just like all the major blog hosting sites. Infact it was in the air that WordPress might introduce Adsense support sometime soon. Not sure what happened of that!
Regards
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That “sometime soon” was the story I was seeing over two years ago, so my suggestion is that you not hold your breath. No one knows if or when it will show up.
Your choices if you absolutely, positively have to have ads to make your life complete:
1. Self-host a blog using the wordpress software and “ad” away (hopefully the ad revenue will cover your domain name registration and hosting costs)
2. Move to a blogging service that allows ads. Blogger loves it if you use adsense on a blog here. They give you a few pennies and keep a dollar for themselves.
-
Frankly, I’d rather support the service that allows me to blog for free, since WordPress.COM already runs Adsense on WordPress.COM blogs. See the bottom of the page here http://support.wordpress.com/advertising/
But as thesacredpath pointed out, if you absolutely have to run your own ads, a self-hosted blog is the way to go. Once you’ve set up your self-hosted blog using the WordPress.ORG software, you can then export the content from your WordPress.COM blog and import it there. http://support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

If anyone expects posts in the forum to serve as feedback to staff, they need to become more familiar with the way WordPress.com works before asking that it be changed.

Dear WordPress.com;
As a professional I often have opportunities to tell large groups what Blogging platform I prefer. Please allow bloggers to ad their adsense account to their blogs. It definitely is influencing my overall opinion of wordpress these days. -
-
That’s unfortunate. I’d really love to have my own adsense account, but if it never happens, so be it. It’s more important for me to have a free platform to blog on anyways.

-
Please do not bump every Adsense thread you find, or I will report you to staff as a spammer and you’ll get a temporary time-out from the forum.
-
I live in a foreign country and cannot afford to upgrade my wordpress account. Only way would be to earn adsense, surely this is a good reason to allow us to use the service? People will upgrade instead of simply using the free services!

There is always Blogger (free) and self-hosting with wordpress.org.

As someone who lives outside the US, I’m intrigued by the concept that everyone who lives outside of the US must by definition be so desperately poor that their only way out of crushing poverty is Adsense.
-
The money I used to earn with AdSense on my latest blog was venial. I had 200 – 300 visits/day.
-
let us make money, gives us an incentive! I think if wordpress will allow adsen’ and us to make money … they WILL become ever bigger as it weill attract lots of people :D
-
I’m not sure they WANT to attract those kinds of people. They want them to use WordPress.ORG instead.
-
Why dont you just embed the HTML code given to you by Google Adsense and just embed it into a general TEXT widget?
-
Because it gets stripped out. It’s not permitted. And if you could somehow rig up some way to display ads, you’d find your blog suspended or deleted, as it is against the terms of service here.

I do consulting on a variety of things including setting up and customizing blogs for people and the thing I’ve noticed is that when I first do a blog for someone, they are worried about presenting their stuff in the best light and all the questions and requests for changes I get from them are aimed at making their blog more readable and pleasant to visit. At some point many of them start asking about advertising and once that is set up for them, the questions change from the subject of readability, aesthetics, and presenting their posts and information in the best way to question along the lines of 1) I’m not getting many clicks on the ads, do you think I should add more ads under or above the posts? 2) Should I put adverts in the footer also? 3) I’m not getting many clicks on the ads, should I change to a different ad network or should I move the ads to where they are more prominent?
In other words, the focus many times seems to shift away from the post and the information and to the ads and optimizing them.
