Adsense code (ads) doesn't appear

I tried to copy and paste the Google Adsense code (both asynchronous and synchronous) in the text widget of WordPress, but neither types seem to work. When I paste and save the asynchronous code, it changes to a different one after the save. When I paste and save the synchronous code, it disappears altogether after the save. Consequently, the Adsense doesn’t work. I made sure that I copied the entire code. What is the solution? Kindly guide!

You aren’t allowed to initiate advertising at all on any WordPress.com blog. You need to hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.ORG install to run ads.

There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.
