AdSense code on a WordPress page

  • Unknown's avatar

Microsoft is doing away with their ads program by which we developers can include an ad control in our apps and receive income from the ad when it is viewed or clicked on. To replace that system, I’d like to include Google AdSense code in a page on my WordPress site, and then load that page into a web viewer in my apps, essentially providing a place then for banner type ads to be viewed and clicked on, and then receive the income from Google. Is this viable on WordPress? And if so, do I need to upgrade from my free account? Thanks!

You can’t put Google Adsense code on a free wordpress.com website. To do so you must upgrade to the Business Plan or apply fir Wordads at https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordads-and-earn/

  • Good Morning –

Please confirm which site you are working on. I can see that sticktogethersoftware.wordpress.com is registered to your account but has only ever had 1 post published on it.

It sounds like you may actually be working with the open source WordPress.org software. We can confirm with the site URL.

These are the ways to monetize on WordPress.com’s managed hosting environment: https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/

With our business plan you can manage and customize your ad network. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    Steps would be:
    – WordPress -> My Site
    – Select Site, then Pages
    – Create a new page, add the AdSense code to show an ad

    Then in my app:
    – Write code to pull in this page and display in my app, in an area normally reserved for ads.

Will that be okay by WordPress?

  • Hi there,

The only way you can add adsense as you describe above is if you purchased the Business Plan:

Is sticktogethersoftware.wordpress.com the site you want to add adsense to?

    Thanks for the quick response!

I’ve created and published an empty site page called Ads. Direct link:

    Ads

I’d want to put on this page only the ad display code from AdSense; and maybe the code to surround it “in a box”; I’ve not used AdSense so am not familiar with what they deliver, but I’m hoping a “normal banner ad” type.

This page would then be read into and displayed in my apps, usually in a box control. It would then be visible to my apps users, they could click on it and launch the ad content in a new window, etc.

Knowing this, which AdSense approach would you suggest as best fit the SiteKit approach?

From the link you provided it looks like the minimum plan supporting ads monetization is 8$ per month.

  • Using AdSense here requires a paid Business Plan, but we do have another advertising option available at a lower plan level.
