AdSense on Purchased Domain?
-
I paid for my own domain (alfredeus.com), so can I implement AdSense now since WordPress’ free service doesn’t?
-
Paying for your own domain name doesn’t free you from the restrictions at WP.com. Only getting HOSTING elsewhere will do that.
Every upgrade at WP.com applies only to very specific things. CSS upgrade allows you to change the look of the blog, but not the way it functions. Domain name upgrade allows you to change the URL of the blog, but nothing else. It is still on WP.com and subject to those restrictions.
If you have purchased hosting elsewhere and installed your own WP from WP.org, you need to be over in their forums for help, as our answers won’t apply to you.

OK thanks for the clear up. Another question — since I technically paid for the domain, and now I can access the Account Manager via Automattic, can I have the domain itself forward the browser to another site automatically?
Example: you hit wordpress.com on your browser, which then takes you directly to google.com.
Is that possible?

You cannot move a domain which is connected with a site for sixty days after you connect it with the site. That’s not WP’s policy, it’s US law.
And after that point, there’s no need to have your domain name redirect, since it won’t be ON WP.com, but it will be somewhere else entirely and your hits will go directly to that place.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Is this FAQ related to the question: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/can-i-redirect-my-blog/
-
To be blunt, I want my newly-minted alfredeus.com to redirect to http://alfredeus.blogspot.com/ , which I obviously manage. Is this possible?
-
If you already mapped that URL to a blog anywhere, you cannot move it for sixty days. If you purchased it but have not connected it to any blog, yes you can attach it to any blog you want.
-
It sounds as if you purchased your domain through WordPress.COM. If the backend of the Account Manager does not give you the ability to change the nameservers (and IIRC, blogspot requires a change of CNAME which you CANNOT do using the wordpress.COM-purchased domain) then you have to wait 60 days before you can transfer the domain to another registrar, at which time you can point the domain where ever you want.
-
The mapping part really doesn’t matter, rain. It’s the registration that can’t be moved. Here’s the domain management FAQ http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/07/09/domain-management/
Apparently, the nameservers CAN be changed.

And there is a reason why the domain only costs $5. Looking at that FAQ, you see that it is limited.

Wow, thanks for the help, guys. So just to clarify, it isn’t possible for me to forward my domain (and thus have my Blogger page turn into alfredeus.com), or do I just have to wait the 60 days? Thank you for your insight, I’m really terrible with this sort of thing.
