adsense with free wordpress blog

  Hi there, I’m desperate to get AdSense working on a free WordPress blog . However, the code doesn’t seem to work whenever I put it into a custom HTML widgets. Can you help me here? Is this possible? Or do I have to pay to get an upgrade in order to get adverts on my blog? Does this mean i/ have to pay premium. I guess I’ll go elsewhere if so.

  Third party ad networks like Google AdSense are only supported on WordPress.com sites using the Business plan:

  Monetize Your Site

  So you will need to upgrade in order to start using it — the code needed to run those ads isn’t supported on our lower plans.
