Adult ads on my blog

Hi, my boss looked at my *technical* blog – that is, proper technology blog with a focus on Microsoft Exchange, and he laughed his head off when he saw adult adverts at the bottom of my blog.

I was stunned to see it myself too.

How on earth do I get these questionable content there? And most importantly, how do I ensure that such things don’t make their way into my blog?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

a similar thread was started here 3 days ago:

There is also an option for ad-free blog (however, you need to upgrade to Premium):

    Ads on WordPress.com

When you buy the annual No Ads upgrade from your Dashboard>Store>Store, WPcom removes all ads they place from appearing on your website. Period. (You should see this option in your Dashboard>Store>Store as your account is older than September 2014.)

If you do not buy the No Ads upgrade, WPcom does have the right to show ads on your WPcom website; besides you agreeing to this in the ToS when you signed up, it helps support the free features.

However, if you see inappropriate ads appearing on your website (which of course WPcom has no interest showing on a family friendly site), please take a screenshot and upload it to your site’s Media Library and then let Staff know in this thread.

  • I do not see any ads featuring adult content at http://ezoltan.wordpress.com/

Would you please take a screenshot of the ad and upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard so we can take a look?

Here’s how to make a screenshot:

Please note that it’s possible for ads to appear in your browser that were *not* placed there by WordPress.com. These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.

These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

staff-blorbo, unfortunately I have no access to my boss’ computer. What popped up on his screen wasn’t hard core explicit content. It had two items I wasn’t happy with: a dating ad and a “hot celbs”. While I didn’t get the dating bit so far, hot celebs is a rather constant feature. I don’t think these are something appropriate for underage kids. I might have my ethics differently calibrated than WordPress’…

  • A lot of bloggers want to either pick the ads or only have contextually relevant ads. I’m afraid, however, that online advertising today doesn’t work that way. WordPress.com is a top 10 global site and for the most part we don’t get to pick ads, rather the advertisers pick us. We do have a process where we pick ad partners and we have screened out a number whose quality standards are not up to our standards and we can block ads explicitly featuring sex, violence, and drugs, but currently it’s not possible for us to give each blogger the ability to pick ads or to run only contextually relevant ads.
