Advanced Display Settings Not Appearing

    Hello

I am trying to make a Featured Image link to another page on my site. However, I cannot find how to edit the image from my media library so as to add a link. From what I’ve seen on the forums I am supposed to have a menu titled ‘Advanced Display Settings,’ where I can change the image to a linked image, however this menu does not show up.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Featured images work a bit differently from other images you add to posts and pages on your site. Your site’s theme determines how featured images work, including where they link to, so it isn’t possible to make a featured image link to another page on your site.

If you can describe what image you’re trying to change and where you want it to link to, I can take a look to see if there’s another way you could achieve a similar effect on your site. :)

Thank you for thee quick reply! on my page there are three social media icons about midway down (FB, Twitter, and Google+). I would like to make these clickable if possible, and link to separate pages on my site.

Ah, I see what you mean! The Port theme you’re using is designed to show featured content in that section where you see your social media icons. In that featured content section, the featured images aren’t clickable so there isn’t a way to make those featured images link to different pages on your site.

However, you can add clickable social media icons in the excerpt (instead of as featured images) for the featured pages in that section. Here’s how to do that:

    1. Open your list of pages in your WP Admin dashboard: https://broadwayboundfund.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page
    2. Click on one of your featured social media pages to edit it
    3. In the “Featured Image” section, remove the featured image (since that image can’t be linked to another page)
    4. In the editor, click the “Add Media” button and select the social media icon on the “Insert Media” screen
    5. In the image settings on the right side, under “Advanced Display Settings,” choose “Link to Custom URL” and enter the link to the page you want that social media icon to link to.
    6. Click the “Insert into Page” button to add the image to that page
    7. In the editor, switch from the “Visual” tab to the “Text” tab to see the HTML code for that clickable image. Copy that code.
    8. In the “Excerpt” box, paste that code. That will add the clickable image to your page excerpt, which will appear on the front page of your site.

I know there are quite a few steps for doing that, so I put together a little video showing how to add the image and copy it into to your page excerpt: https://cloudup.com/c9eNxaJDWbN

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
