Advert on blog advertising competitor?!

    Sorry to ask a second question in a day but two people have just alerted me to something fairly alarming. I am a HypnoBirthing practitioner and my blog is partly to promote my business. An article I posted today about hypnobirthing – http://earthmamadoula.wordpress.com/2011/07/12/so-what-exactly-is-hypnobirthing-anyway/ – is apparently showing people adverts for Natal Hypnotherapy, which is a competitor to HypnoBirthing, right under the header. One is viewing it on a phone, I’m not sure about the other. I can’t see any adverts at all on my computer, logged in or out.

    Both have viewed it through the FB app NetworkedBlogs, will it be the app that is showing the adverts or is this WordPress? In either case, does anybody know how I can stop it from showing adverts for competitors? I imagine this must be a fairly common problem since a lot of people blog for personal business reasons so there must be a solution, surely?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    WordPress.com display ads on our blogs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ The only way to have them removed is so purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/

    From: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ .

    Note: To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements. We try hard to only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade.

    No Ads

    I don’t necessarily want the ads removed all together, but is there any way to stop them from displaying certain ads as and when they come up? I know I have read on breastfeeding sites (for example) that they have ended up with formula milk adverts next to their content but were able to request that these were stopped as and when they come up. Is there any option of doing this here?
    Thanks

    Oh sorry, just read in full about it being the only way to eliminate risk of competitor posts. I guess I’ll have to suck it up until I can afford luxury overheads like this. Thanks guys for your help.

    @earthmamadoula
    Google Adwords advertising is selected based on the keywords you use in your blog. As it’s WordPress.com and not you that has the Google Adsense account you cannot eliminate competitor ads from displaying on your blog. The only choice is an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade so that’s why I recommend that anyone setting up a free hosted blog for the purpose of selling their own creations or services purchase a No-Ads upgrade when they set up their blog. You’re welcome and best wishes.

    @TSP
    G’day to you. :)

    It is possible, if you’re logged out of WP.com so you can see the ads, to click on the “Ads by Google” at the bottom of the ad and give Google feedback about whether or not the ad was appropriate for your site.
