I am sorry, but advertising is NOTallowed on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. As your blog is not a high traffic blog it cannot qualify for the Ad Control program.
Presumably you do not wish to attempt to qualify and be accepted into the VIP hosting program. http://vip.wordpress.com/
See:http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
In a nutshell free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM cannot be used to drive traffic to third-party sites via advertising and/or affiliate programs. E-commerce cannot be conducted on wordpress.COM blogs. No retailing or reselling the work created by anyone other than you is allowed. See types of blogs section I linked to above.
Please see this link to learn about the differences between free hosted WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.org software installs for self hosting.
If you require advertising, you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org

You might also review the TOS before you get too far along:

~~ @timethief – why don’t people seem to read the TOS they agreed to? And then some get quite abusive when their site is suspended and we point out the TOS to them.
@tcwei should look at their blog a bit – the link breaker bot has already disabled several links on their site and point them to types of blogs.
Oh well – have a nice week – thanks for the extra info in your answer –

And the ToS here are in plain English. Want to see some real ToS whiners, check my blog:

If you want to advertise, do as suggested and self-host a blog. If you are lucky by the end of the second year you might actually make enough to pay for your third year of hosting and domain registration. Might.
Don’t quit your day job though.

Then we had the writer today that could not read – did not seem to understand about sites that just have a headline and a link and no value added by that – seen quite a few of them suspended – and not all were ad issues –
Interesting links @raincoaster –

Thanks. If only the trolls were more interesting. I tried, but there
s nothing that can be done with these people. Lock them in studio apartments with their cats. Its all they really want anyway. They shouldn`t be on the internet unsupervised. -
Most trolls are quite predictable and boring – I don’t read the comments much on political sites as they are so very predictable and many of limited coherence –
On a different subject – sometimes the questions people ask are so bad that I feel like answering that they should not be allowed around a mouse let alone a web site –
But I found a good cookie recipe today from one of the random sites that went by on my dashboard so all is not lost.
Have a nice week

Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa both have snow right now (yes it snows in Hawaii – just not typically below about 12,000 feet) and with the big storm moving in Wednesday and Thursday they will probably get more.
Image from Mauna Kea web cam this morning (without http:// to keep from getting akismeted): cfht.hawaii.edu/webcams/cfhtdome/cfhtdome.jpg . The white blurry thing you see in the center is one of the observatories.

I’m at 1300 feet, so no snow for me. Have to drive up the mountain to get to snow and right now the roads are closed up there and with the big storm headed our way it they will get a lot more snow.

But how do lawyers and more words relate? Sure, the more rules there are the more words the tos will be. It just seems that noone has the time to look through 4000 words. I’m not saying the wordpress terms are this long, but I know I didn’t look at them until a few weeks after I signed up.
-
Most people don’t. But it’s not easy to spell out exactly what you’re getting and what the mutual responsibilities are in something less than a significant number of words.
If you’re willing to blog for a year on the platform without reading what you’ve agreed to, you can’t really blame anyone but yourself. Not that such people ever do.
